Popular detective show Hinterland closed its doors in 2016 when season 3 came to a dramatic close.
The four-episode drama saw DCI Tom Mathias come under suspicion of murder himself, with clever crimes unravelling storylines all the way back to season 1.
The hit S4C series had previously aired in winter 2013, 2015 and 2016. However, with no Hinterland season 4 over the past 24 months, could 2019 be the year for another instalment?

Will There be a Season 4 of Hinterland?
Unconfirmed!
For now, it’s best to imagine that there will not be a season 4 of Hinterland.
While series 3 was a huge success with its audience, there are plenty of reasons why the series may be dead in its tracks.
Hinterland and Brexit
Hinterland received money from Europe for both series 1 and 3 of the show, which is one of the reasons it ended up airing in over 150 countries.
Before season 3 kick-started, Mali Harries, who plays Mared Rhys, said:
I know a large part of the funding for this programme came from the European Union so it is scary, but hopefully we can forge a way forward that is positive and people can accept us and continue to fund us, and continue to be a part of this ongoing journey
With the ongoing complications involving Brexit, it seems likely that Hinterland producers are holding off until the ties between European Unions and the U.K is clearer.
For now, it is extremely unlikely that Hinterland season 4 will be back in 2019 – if at all!
Richard Harrington Moving On
What makes matters worse for fans of Hinterland is the sight of leading star Richard Harrington moving on, which suggests that he is looking for new projects.
The 43-year-old actor, who plays Tom Mathias, is currently filming for a short film for Channel 4.
Hinterland producers, too, are exploring other avenues.
The crews behind the Hinterland series have been shooting in Swansea for a new BBC Wales and S4C show called Hidden/Craith, which will follow a similar detective-drama format.
