If gloomy-chic, all-black New York City street style had two mothers, they would be Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
The twins, who rose to fame as adorable child actors in the ’90s, transformed into Hollywood’s most mysterious and stylish It girls in the ’00s, and in 2006 took over the fashion world with their luxury label the Row. The brand has since formed its own kind of fashion cult, in which slouchy staples in inky black and creamy neutrals reign supreme, and no amount is too high to pay for a simple white T-shirt.
A-listers including Zöe Kravitz, Jennifer Lawrence, and Elle and Dakota Fanning are frequent shoppers of the label, but the Olsen twins are by far the Row’s coolest muses and fans.
On Thursday, Ashley was seen out running errands in Manhattan in the monochrome look I want to wear all spring long. The main staple was a crunchy belted trench coat from the Row, ideal for the recent rainy weather in the city. Ashley wore it over black frayed jeans, and paired it with the prettiest ballet flats with a tiny bow at the front, which seem to be from Mansur Gavriel.
She finished the look with the Row’s glossy Lady bag in black croc (a piece that retails for approximately $33,000) and gold hardware, a black cashmere scarf from the Row, which she wrapped around her neck, tucking her wavy bronde hair under it, and black cat-eye sunglasses with orange lenses, which seem to be from Vuarnet.
Ashley was seen walking with Nicolas Turko, the Row’s vice president of brand identity and marketing.
